Towns
- Both towns are situated near the coast and date back to the 8th century BC when the first Etruscans settled in the area. The origins of the Etruscans are mysterious, but the towns had thriving trade with the Greeks and the Phoenicians.
- The Romans believed that the legendary Aenea (Virgilius) had founded Tarquinia after the war of Troy.
- There are many Necropolis and subterranean houses for the dead, in this region, which date back to the 5th century.
